Rabbi Reuven Mann zt"l

Rabbi Reuven Mann zt”l (1944-2025) was born and raised in Brooklyn and educated at Yeshivas Torah Vodaas before continuing his studies at Yeshiva University. Through perseverance and disciplined effort, he forged the intellectual rigor that would define his learning and life. Influenced by Rabbi Yerucham Gorelick zt’l, Rabbi Dovid Lifshitz zt’l, and Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik zt’l, he developed a demanding and analytical derech ha-limud rooted in clarity and conceptual precision. Rabbi Mann, along with Rabbi Israel Chait, founded the Yeshiva B’nei Torah in 1971. Together they built a thriving Yeshiva that’s produced many Rabbis and Talmidei Torah. Rabbi Mann ultimately served there for decades as the Menahel and a daily Maggid Shiur, where he helped shape generations of Talmidim not only through content but through methodology - training students to think deeply, analyze carefully, and internalize a rigorous approach to learning. In addition, Rabbi Mann co-founded the Masoret Institute of Judaic Studies for Women - along with Rabbi Daniel Rosenthal zt"l. Rabbi Mann taught in Masoret for 33 years with unwavering dedication - up until the final days of his life.

There, he opened the depth of serious learning to women seeking intellectual and spiritual growth, bringing the same rigor, integrity, and passion that defined all of his teachings. Concurrently, Rabbi Mann also served and taught from the Pulpit as Rabbi of the JCC of Inwood, Rinat Yisrael of Plainview Long Island, and later the Young Israel of Phoenix. Known for his intellectual courage and uncompromising commitment to Emes, the truth, he embodied what may be best described as a Gibor HaTorah - one whose strength lay in fidelity to truth and lifelong dedication to teaching it. Rebbetzin Linda Mann was Rabbi Mann’s true ezer kenegdo — a resolute and devoted partner whose strength, wisdom, and steadfast backing made possible the breadth of his Torah leadership. Together, Rabbi Mann and Linda built a home of Torah and are the parents of three children and six grandchildren. Rabbi Mann’s Torah and ideals continue to live on through his family, his talmidim, and many communities and lives he helped shape.

Reflections / Tributes

Thank you, Mitch. I want you to know that my husband loved you and especially loved learning with you every morning for the six years we have lived in Eretz Yisrael - first with you and Rabbi Rosenthal and then with you and my wonderful grandson, Avi. What a glorious way to start each day!

My husband took great joy in distributing his weekly דבר תורה which you, Ben Silberstein and your dental assistant translated into Hebrew so that Israelis could benefit from his תורה.

He appreciated that, in spite of your very busy dental practice, you prepared hard copies for him to distribute in shul or to random people he encountered on his way home from your office. He certainly got שכר הליכה for schlepping on the bus and walking a mile to pick up the hard copies. Rabbi’s unwavering commitment to his mission in life was incredible and beyond belief. He was an inspiration to so many and you illuminated his every day with Torah and camaraderie. He had deep affection for you and your family. We will miss him dearly. He loved you so much.

When I joined the team at United Hatzalah, you and Rev Reuven were some of the very first people I met with in your home. From that first meeting, I felt his warmth and brilliance, and over the last few years, I have been privileged to receive his Torah weekly. I always looked forward to reading his Divrei Torah, which were filled with brilliant insight, deep clarity, and an obvious love for Klal Yisroel and Eretz Yisroel.

From the few times we met in person, I was always struck by his kindness, his depth, and that love for Israel and for helping others. He was truly one of the most unique and inspiring people I have ever had the privilege to meet.

His loss is a tremendous one for all of Klal Yisroel...

May his Neshama have an Aliyah to the highest heights, and may he be a Meilitz Yosher for all of Klal Yisroel.

Rabbi Mann’s ability to convey ideas with precision, his way of articulating and drawing the students into the discussion, presenting potentially life altering concepts in a non-threatening and rational manner , how he related to us as his students even years later and over great distance made him a singular personality. You’d walk away from a conversation with absolutely no good reason for  NOT doing what made sense! Would you? Not necessarily, but now you knew why and at least you were on the road, understood the truth and appreciated the Ideas.

He’d talk about life as a train- and you can’t miss the train

Today at lunch we had five Yeshiva guys over. We talked about Rabbi Mann, and some of what we learned from from him, and how he would define certain aspects of human nature and then use it to unlock areas in Chumash and Nach. As an example, we told over a shiur Rabbi Mann gave about Haman haRasha and why, after so many years of careful plotting, he lost control at the end of the story. The keys to opening it to were sharp and insightful ideas about how people function, that everyone enjoyed. We were so moved to see these young talmidim who are learning in the Yeshiva that Rabbi Mann helped build, a next generation of learners influenced by his teaching.

Beloved Rebbetzin,  It is so remarkable that while Rabbi Mann, tz"l, interacted with thousands of people in so many ways, he had a gift for making each individual kesher feel very personal and very special. I am forever indebted to Rabbi Mann for being a transformative rebbe and role model to  Saul, and for the huge impact he had on all of our lives. I recall with great fondness and nostalgia the times that the four of us spent  together back in the day. Your graciousness, hospitality, and warm friendship made me feel so welcome as a newbie to the YBT community. And of course, I NEVER would have passed my road test without the most patient, understanding driving teacher in the world!

I thought it was just me…. Practically each shiur I would listen to seemed to be tailor-made for what was my own current events in real time. There was always a message for me regarding either a struggle I was facing, a question I was pondering or the like. I knew that was impossible… how would Rabbi Mann know I would even be in that shiur? As it turns out… I was told that others felt the same way and oftentimes they, too felt that Rabbi Mann was speaking directly to them!  He was so relevant, so interested in our lives and experiences. He made sure that the heroes in Tanach would not just remain in the text form as admirable  unreachables but rather showed us how to model ourselves into versions of ourselves that we never thought possible.

Rabbi Mann is irreplaceable and that’s what is so heartbreaking about this.  But I recently learned from my very wise aunt who told me that we can’t just thank Hashem for what we have… we must also thank Him for what we HAD because what we HAD is still with us if we took it seriously and learned and appreciated it when we had it, then we still have it.

I for one am grateful that Rabbi Mann was in my life and I know for a fact that I owe a huge debt of gratitude for having had the privilege to call him my Rav.

Something I used to do and wanted to get back into the swing of things. Preparing as much as possible for shabbos on Thursday night. I heard how Rabbi Mann really invested in shabbos and it gave me the push to restart.

Truly a master teacher... we're so fortunate to have been Rabbi Mann's students all these years. We'll always be able to review his vast library of shiurim.

This is all true in every comment.   We had a good measure of hashgacha in having the privilege, possibility  and pure joy of being Rabbi Mann's  talmidim and  being moved to get closer to hashem and His ways.   And it's a constant  blessing that we can have this vast storehouse of recorded  and written tora and wisdom  preserved and available  to keep being rebbe's talmidim.
